Other Side of the MIC - Jack Lovett-Hurst!

Jack Lovett-Hurst has been a programme maker here at Radio Southland for a few years now - starting off with Jack's Knowledge Of Sport, where he caught everyone up on the week's sports news, and never let us forget he's a Warriors fanati... errr... supporter! As Jack hit the adult world, and was given the opportunity to work for Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Charitable Trust, his radio show focus changed to disability inclusion & employment. 'SOAR' (Securing Our Aspirational Realities) is a programme offered through NKMPT which aims to understand, as well as grow whanau & community awareness & knowledge about service options, how to get needs met, and how to live full, enriched lives. On SOAR, he and his new co-host William interview people in the community with disabilities and their whanau - as well as service providers - about their stories, how they are reaching their dreams, and what needs services can assist with.

Jack lives with muscular dystrophy - but has that ever held him back? Hardly ever. Jack is an active figure in the Southland disabled sports scene, a gym fixture, handcyclist and New York Marathon competitor, and can often be found zooming around town, stopping to chat with anyone who needs a yarn or an encouraging word.

SOAR airs on Wednesdays at 12.10pm, with a repeat on 1.45pm on Fridays. You can also binge-listen to podcasts of SOAR here. SOAR also has it's own Facebook page here. And you can listen to our full Other Side of the MIC interview with Jack this week here!
