It was a spectacular evening at the Ascot Park Hotel on Friday June 14th with the second annual “FibreOctave” Wearable Art evening coordinated by the Invercargill Inner Wheel Club, and Radio Southland is proud to be able to announce the winner of the People’s Choice.
The evening was hosted by Station Manager Darren Ludlow and at the end of the evening members of the public had the chance to vote for their favorite from the 36 entries.
The winner of the People’s Choice was “A Bog Standard Wedding Dress” made by Jan Cowan from toilet paper and chicken wire. The Body Art entry – “Thalassa” by Kerry Penisula Spain was a very close 2nd – with only $2 between the two top entries.
Voting was by gold coin donation.
Darren said it was an exciting evening with some spectacular entries which had obviously had a lot of creativity and time put into them.
The “Bizarre Bras” segment organised by Invercargill North Inner Wheel was almost a show stopper, he said.
“The North members were the models and were obviously having a lot of fun. Their enthusiasm and theatricality was something that caught me a little by surprise. It was one of those rare occasions when I struggled for words – but was quickly followed by a second such occasion with a performance by Mark Holmes appearing in a large diaper. It’s still something I can’t get out of my head,” he said.
There were musical performances from Mr Holmes, Melissa Crennan, Hamish McGregor, Jan Cowan plus Steven Broad and Libby Fraser from the upcoming production of “Grease”.
